Pianist, composer and bandleader Amy Stephens loves jazz and classical piano and is well-versed in both realms, performing and recording since 1998.  She is particularly fond of Third Stream music, the fusion of classical form with jazz language and sensibilities.

Her award-winning Third Stream piano suites include Scenes of San Francisco, A Day at the Beach, Becoming Suite for Solo Piano in Seven Movements, and the Childhood Excursions series. Her 2018 solo piano album Becoming showcases new Third Stream works.

Amy has fronted her jazz quartet, Amy Stephens Group, since 1998.  The three albums of Amy’s original jazz compositions–My Many Moods, Gold Through Fire, and Amy Stephens Group debut–have earned acclaim and steady airplay on jazz radio.

A graduate of Indiana University School of Music (BM classical piano, BM jazz piano, MM jazz studies, and Performer’s Certificate), Amy has been privileged to study with the father of jazz education, David N. Baker, and world-class jazz and classical pianists Lynne Arriale, Marius ‘Butch’ Nordal, Luke Gillespie, and Evelyne Brancart.  She has also earned the designation of Nationally Certified Teacher of Music by the Music Teachers National Association. She is an active member of Music Teachers National Association, Music Teachers Association of California, National Association of Composers, and International Association of Women in Music.

Amy currently lives in coastal California with her family, teaching a full studio of enthusiastic piano students.
