Pianist, composer and bandleader Amy Stephens loves jazz and classical piano and is well-versed in both realms, performing and recording extensively for the past 20 years.  She is particularly fond of Third Stream music, the fusion of classical form with jazz language and sensibilities.  Her 2018 album BECOMING showcases Amy performing new Third Stream works written by herself and others.

Amy has fronted her own jazz quartet, Amy Stephens Group, since 1998.  The three albums of Amy’s original jazz quartet compositions—My Many Moods (2005), Gold Through Fire (2000) and debut album Amy Stephens Group (1998)—have earned acclaim and steady airplay on jazz radio around the U.S. and internet jazz radio around the world.

Amy has been privileged to study with the father of jazz education, David N. Baker, and world-class jazz and classical pianists Lynne Arriale, Marius ‘Butch’ Nordal, Luke Gillespie, and Evelyne Brancart.  A graduate of Indiana University’s world-renowned school of music, Amy earned a Bachelor’s degree in jazz piano, a Bachelor’s degree in classical piano, a Masters in jazz studies, and the coveted Performer’s Certificate.  She has also earned the designation of Nationally Certified Teacher of Music by the Music Teachers National Association.

Amy currently lives in coastal California with her husband and three sons, writing music, performing, recording, and teaching a full studio of enthusiastic piano students.  Amy is also an avid swimmer and loves growing orchids and native California plants in her garden.   She is an active member of Music Teachers National Association, Music Teachers Association of California, and International Association of Women in Music.
